Ye Jawani Hai Deewani’ Movie Review- Tanmay Dubey

Starring :- Ranbir Kapoor, Deepika Padukone, Aditya Roy Kapoor, Kalki Koechin

Director:- Ayan Mukherjee

The Iconic song “yeh jawani hai deewani….” had a rhythm and tempo which represented the energy of youth.  Bunny aka Kabir ( Ranbir Kapoor) is a guy who loves speed, wants to be first, dreams to travel the world, & don’t believe in love and marriage. {anything new?} he has a loving step mom and equally doting father but he doesn’t care about relationships. For him dreams are bigger than everything.

Tanya is a studios (chashmish) medical student who wants to be cool by going on holidays with her friends (anything new?)

CUT 1: Boy meets girl with a bunch of cool friends, who believe in abe tu, chal na, so na, hat na kinda lingo. (Read: kalki and Aditya) the bunch has a beautiful bimbo too whom the boys seduces and girls’ yeeks! (anything new?)

Our seedhi saadhi ladki falls in for our street smart dude (ye to hona hi tha!)  But our dude (as mentioned earlier) is not interested in love.

HEART BREAK!

Cut 2: 8 years later the gang reunites (Read: Kalki’s marriage to a boring dud engineer, multimillionaire type played by big brother Kunal Roy kapoor) (anything new?) the old flames reignite and before any further heart breaks, our cool dude gives up his dream job and falls in for our gharelu ladki  like a lame duck! ( anything…….)

Ayan Mukherji after making a sensitive film like ‘wake up sid’ tries his hand on giving a full blown Bollywood bhelpuri with extra dose of chutni in Pritam’s rocking music. But finds himself swathed in ‘I want to show everything syndrome’ and falls little flat.

Performance wise everyone gives average performance. Aditya Roy kapoor’s role is badly written and he seems to be continuing his innings from Aashiqui 2 (Read: drunkard). Kalki shows she can’t dance but only act. Kunal Roy Kapoor tries very hard to be funny but is not. Ranbir kapoor’s lines do evoke a little humour. First half has comic sequence which can conjure laughter.

Pritam’s music is par brilliance. Mad’s item number is for the sake of it, (she does looks beautiful and dance’s brilliantly)

With huge publicity and no major film around this film will definitely rake the mollah. ( it already has a terrific opening!) Yet from my point of view the film tries to show a love story of the confused youth and does not offer anything which you have not seen in a hindi film and you cannot resist and say while you get up from the seat. Anything new ?
