‘BOMBAY TALKIES’ Movie Review- Tanmay Dubey

Starring:- Rani Mukherji, Randeep Hooda, Saquib Saleem, Vineet Kumar, Singh, Nawazuddin Siddiqui, Naman Jain

Director:- Karan Johar, Dibakar Banerjee, Zoya Akhtar, Anurag Kashyap

Bombay Talkies is an unusual film; it celebrates 100 years of Indian cinema and also marks out a beginning of a new era. This film consists of four short stories directed by eminent director of our time.

 Ajeeb Dastaan Hain Yeh

-Karan Johar

Not surprisingly, coming from Kjo, This film tackles the issue of the acceptance of gay relationships in the society. Saqib Saleem is a self-declared (unapologetically) gay man. He is Rani Mukherji’s friend & colleague at office. He meets Rani’s husband played brilliantly by Randeep Hooda during a dinner only to find out later that he is also gay! What transpires next is the rest of the story. Kjo handles the subject with maturity and the story nicely grips the tense cords.Rating …….. 3.5 / 5

Star

-Dibakar Banerjee

Nawazuddin Siddiqui gives another brilliant performance as a failed actor who gets a chance to act in an inconsequential role in a movie and it turns out to be his biggest learning of life. He gets a new zest for life and more importantly for his crippled daughter. Dibakar Banerjee lefts too much for the audience to conclude on the philosophical and spiritual message that he wants to spread thorugh his story. Rating…….3/5

 Sheila Ki Jawaani

-Zoya Akhtar

A 12 year old boy follows his dream to become ‘Sheila’ a dancer in life, against his father’s wishes who want to see his son become a tough man. Katrina is ‘Sheila’ transformed into ‘guiding angel’ for the boy. He helps his sister to fulfill her dream by following his dream. Zoya Akhtar’s story is cute with a message- that one needs to believe in self and follow the heart to fulfill his/her dream. the cute performance by the young actors brings instant smile. Rating…….3.5/5

Murabba

-Anurag Kashyap
A dying father has a wish. Get this murabba tasted by Amitabh Bachchan! So that he can live tasting his God’s half eaten fruit for the rest of his life! Hence the young Allahabadi son lands in Mumbai to fulfill his father’s wishJ.  The story is painfully funny supported by brilliant performance by Naman Jain. The best story among all!
Rating…..4/5
