                    'HANGOVER 3'- Movie review

Starring:- Bradley Cooper, Ed Helms, Zach Galifianakis, Ken Jeong, Heather Graham
Director:- Todd Phillips

All good things come to an end and so does HANGOVER 3…..does it really? The "Wolfpack" (Phil, Stu, Doug, and Alan) are living their life quietly until Alan’s father suffers a heart attack and he is dead (thanks to Alan!) The extended family decides to send Alan to rehab when the ghost of their past returns. (no, no, no, this time around they aren’t drunk, they aren’t lost, they do remember everything!) but what follows them is the chain of events that got started when they were in Vegas for the first time and if they have to put an end to everything they have to chase down Chow. That crazy cocaine loving, dinky, son of b*%&h (They finally gets him in Vegas in Caesar’s climbing down the good old roof!)

Writer-Director Todd Phillips has done a good job putting up the story together, revisiting old characters, almost similar situations and at times paying tribute to the iconic trilogy he has created. But the crucial question is Does the film has the same zing as the last two? I am afraid ‘No’! It does have the madness and craziness of the last two parts but not of the same degree. (This is the flipside of being a sequel of a successful franchise you are bound to be compared by the predecessors but that’s what the challenge is. Isn’t it?)

All the lead cast are doing what they do best-act crazy, with characters who are out of their minds, and hurling Fu#%*&G abuses every now and then! This is film is like a cracker whom you anticipate for a big Boooooom but it ends up in a POP!

Ye Jawani Hai Deewani’ Movie Review- Tanmay Dubey

Starring :- Ranbir Kapoor, Deepika Padukone, Aditya Roy Kapoor, Kalki Koechin

Director:- Ayan Mukherjee

The Iconic song “yeh jawani hai deewani….” had a rhythm and tempo which represented the energy of youth.  Bunny aka Kabir ( Ranbir Kapoor) is a guy who loves speed, wants to be first, dreams to travel the world, & don’t believe in love and marriage. {anything new?} he has a loving step mom and equally doting father but he doesn’t care about relationships. For him dreams are bigger than everything.

Tanya is a studios (chashmish) medical student who wants to be cool by going on holidays with her friends (anything new?)

CUT 1: Boy meets girl with a bunch of cool friends, who believe in abe tu, chal na, so na, hat na kinda lingo. (Read: kalki and Aditya) the bunch has a beautiful bimbo too whom the boys seduces and girls’ yeeks! (anything new?)

Our seedhi saadhi ladki falls in for our street smart dude (ye to hona hi tha!)  But our dude (as mentioned earlier) is not interested in love.

HEART BREAK!

Cut 2: 8 years later the gang reunites (Read: Kalki’s marriage to a boring dud engineer, multimillionaire type played by big brother Kunal Roy kapoor) (anything new?) the old flames reignite and before any further heart breaks, our cool dude gives up his dream job and falls in for our gharelu ladki  like a lame duck! ( anything…….)

Ayan Mukherji after making a sensitive film like ‘wake up sid’ tries his hand on giving a full blown Bollywood bhelpuri with extra dose of chutni in Pritam’s rocking music. But finds himself swathed in ‘I want to show everything syndrome’ and falls little flat.

Performance wise everyone gives average performance. Aditya Roy kapoor’s role is badly written and he seems to be continuing his innings from Aashiqui 2 (Read: drunkard). Kalki shows she can’t dance but only act. Kunal Roy Kapoor tries very hard to be funny but is not. Ranbir kapoor’s lines do evoke a little humour. First half has comic sequence which can conjure laughter.

Pritam’s music is par brilliance. Mad’s item number is for the sake of it, (she does looks beautiful and dance’s brilliantly)

With huge publicity and no major film around this film will definitely rake the mollah. ( it already has a terrific opening!) Yet from my point of view the film tries to show a love story of the confused youth and does not offer anything which you have not seen in a hindi film and you cannot resist and say while you get up from the seat. Anything new ?

Fast & Furious 6’ Movie Review- Tanmay Dubey

Starring :Vin Diesel; Paul Walker, Dwayne Johnson, Michelle Rodriguez,  Jordana Brewster, Tyrese Gibson, Chris Bridges, Sung Kang, Luke Evans, Gina Carano & John Ortiz

Director:- Justin Lin

Vroom-Vroom and Dhoom-Dhoom ( I didn’t say 1&2) ‘The Fast & Furious’ franchise is back in their sixth edition and what do they have to offer ? Speed, Stupendous action, Blowing bridges, Flying bodies and kick ass music.

(Dominic) Van Diesel and gang are living unknown life after Rio. Luke Hobbs (Paul Johnson aka ROCK with buulgiing muscles) calls them to fight, Owen Shaw former British special forces soldier (Luke Evans) who is on a lookout to steal a night shade device which could supposedly stop the power of a city ( our state electricity DISCOMs already have it!) and sell it to the highest bidder. The Gang agrees to help The ROCK in return of total amnesty of their past crimes. But hang on…., (before the Operation begins and since this is a sequel we have a blast from the past!) Dominic’s former girlfriend Letty (Michelle Rodriguez) is working with Shaw with her memory all wiped out! And so this becomes personal than professional J

Director Justin Lin once again brings the same high octane action drama to our eyes. The camera movement is amazing. Tyrese Gibson lines are hilarious to the core. There are some sub plots which drags the film a bit; the film also becomes little to dramatic and uses the age old cliché of the bad guy taking hostage of the family members and at times a little to filmy sequences.

But all in all the film is like a dose of steroid for action junkies ! hang on….before we finish the film leaves with a cue for seventh edition too!

‘Aurangzeb’ Movie Review- Tanmay Dubey

Starring:- Rishi Kapoor, Arjun Kapoor, Jackie Shroff, Prithviraj Sukumaran, Amrita Singh, Sasha Agha, Sikander Kher , Swara Bhaskar and  Kavi Shastri

Director:- Atul Sabharwal

Aurangzeb, is no longer a historical figure, it is a way of life which the modern day emperors aka real estate tycoons embrace in the battle for power, money and land. This way of life means blood is thinner than dreams. ‘Kingship knows no kinship’.  After all; the battles were always fought for land, then and now.

Yashwardhan (Jackie Shroff) is a gangster turned real estate king in Gurgaon and his rogue son (Arjun Kapoor) is his only heir. DCP Bhogat (Rishi Kapoor) along with his cousin Arya (Prithviraj) wants to finish his empire. They lay down a chessboard where pawn is Yashwardhan’s long lost son (Arjun Kapoor in a double role) is implanted as Aurangzeb (symbolic), in his father’s empire to act as an informer to Police.  The archer can only take the aim and fire an arrow, whether the arrow hits the target is another thing. That’s what precisely happens when Arjun develops sonny boy feeing for his gangster father and takes a U turn. What follows then is the battle where deceit is an old buddy and to trust is to lose the battle to death.

With all the ingredients in the plate; a contemporary topic of the nexus between real estate czars-police-politicians; a double role; old vendetta; deceit, director Atul Sabharwal had a great launch pad for the film, but in order balance the film between two vortex of ‘kya sapno ki keemat apno se jyada hoti hai’ and ‘badshahat rishte naate nahi dekhti’ he puts to many twists in the plot and leaves the audience a little confused. Especially in the second half, he uses lot of cinematic clichés, giving Arjun Kapoor lots of ‘hero moments’ in the film. Although he does manage to knit all the characters nicely and every one gives a thunderbolt performance (can’t write more about characters, as it might spill the beans!)

Although raw, Arjun Kapoor hosts a lot of promise as an upcoming actor in the industry. It’s always a difficult for a newcomer to do a double role in only his second film, yet he handles the role with good maturity and sensibility.

Veteran Actor, Rishi Kapoor is in his lethal best, Prithiviraj expresses through his eyes, Amrita Singh has nothing much to do. Jackie Shroff is doing some gritty acts now, Sikander Kher for the first time suits the character and the female lead; debutant Sasha Agha (yes! you guessed It right. She is yesteryears actress Salma Agha’s daughter!)  Has very little to do, except for great figure, her dialogue delivery is very weak. She is only in the film to fulfill the sex appeal!

As a Gurgaonite it is heartwarming to see the satellite town becoming almost a character in the film! The title is aptly suited for the flavor of the film. It is dry and tasteless as an herb, and like cannabis it is strong too. Go for it if you are looking for a dry and dark crime thriller!

Score Stack Up:-

‘BOMBAY TALKIES’ Movie Review- Tanmay Dubey

Starring:- Rani Mukherji, Randeep Hooda, Saquib Saleem, Vineet Kumar, Singh, Nawazuddin Siddiqui, Naman Jain

Director:- Karan Johar, Dibakar Banerjee, Zoya Akhtar, Anurag Kashyap

Bombay Talkies is an unusual film; it celebrates 100 years of Indian cinema and also marks out a beginning of a new era. This film consists of four short stories directed by eminent director of our time.

 Ajeeb Dastaan Hain Yeh

-Karan Johar

Not surprisingly, coming from Kjo, This film tackles the issue of the acceptance of gay relationships in the society. Saqib Saleem is a self-declared (unapologetically) gay man. He is Rani Mukherji’s friend & colleague at office. He meets Rani’s husband played brilliantly by Randeep Hooda during a dinner only to find out later that he is also gay! What transpires next is the rest of the story. Kjo handles the subject with maturity and the story nicely grips the tense cords.Rating …….. 3.5 / 5

Star

-Dibakar Banerjee

Nawazuddin Siddiqui gives another brilliant performance as a failed actor who gets a chance to act in an inconsequential role in a movie and it turns out to be his biggest learning of life. He gets a new zest for life and more importantly for his crippled daughter. Dibakar Banerjee lefts too much for the audience to conclude on the philosophical and spiritual message that he wants to spread thorugh his story. Rating…….3/5

 Sheila Ki Jawaani

-Zoya Akhtar

A 12 year old boy follows his dream to become ‘Sheila’ a dancer in life, against his father’s wishes who want to see his son become a tough man. Katrina is ‘Sheila’ transformed into ‘guiding angel’ for the boy. He helps his sister to fulfill her dream by following his dream. Zoya Akhtar’s story is cute with a message- that one needs to believe in self and follow the heart to fulfill his/her dream. the cute performance by the young actors brings instant smile. Rating…….3.5/5

Murabba

-Anurag Kashyap
A dying father has a wish. Get this murabba tasted by Amitabh Bachchan! So that he can live tasting his God’s half eaten fruit for the rest of his life! Hence the young Allahabadi son lands in Mumbai to fulfill his father’s wishJ.  The story is painfully funny supported by brilliant performance by Naman Jain. The best story among all!

GO GOA GONE’ Movie Review- Tanmay Dubey

Starring :- Saif Ali Khan, Kunal Khemu, Vir Das, Anand Tiwari, Puja Gupta

Director:- Raj Nidimoru, Krishna DK

Three friends shoved by their respective situations in life;  GO on a trip of fun, drink & smoke to  the beaches of GOA; they are looking for joints, girls in a rave party organized by Russian mafia. Little do they know that it’s not the cannabis which will make them GONE; but the dumb head Zombies! Aaaaah!. So are they scary? No, remember this is a ZOMCOM a zombie comedy !

Saif Ali Khan and his illuminati films brings a new genre of ZOMCOM in Bollywood.(Read: which is quite popular in big brother Hollywood’s films.) We had bhoots, chudails, but we see a zombie film for the first time. And it is actually quite hilarious. The film comes straight to the point like an arrow on the zombie head to the main plot from the beginning and waste no time in subplots. The dialogues are fandu! as spoken in daily life lingo of youngsters  (Read: No Dramatic dialogues). The music by Sachin-Jigar is electric in babaji ki booti, slowly slowly, & khooni Monday with all the songs hitting the top of the music charts.

Saif’s performance is cool and so is Kunal Khemu and Vir Das’s acts. Pooja Gupta with her limited skills and average looks have nothing much to do. ( thank God she is not used only to sceam!)

Zombie’s don’t look real and are funny (may be they were meant to!) the film do survives on clichés like Hero firing gun in last min, friend saving friend, loyal man turning bad by getting infested.

The film is like a masla chuski in this summer with a message that smoking is bad, drugs are bad, drinking is bad and so is all other shit in life !

‘Shootout at Wadala’ Movie Review- Tanmay Dubey

Starring :- John Abraham, Kangna Ranaut, Anil Kapoor, Tusshar Kapoor, Manoj Bajpai,  Sonu Sood,  Ronit Roy,  Mahesh Manjrekar  &Jackie Shroff,

Director:- Sanjay Gupta

‘Shootout at Wadala’ is a bang–bang, glamourized, non-documentary, full of item numbers depiction of the story of a little known Don of the Mumbai underworld ‘Manya Surve’ in true Sanjay Gupta style. His filming is stylish and his characters speak taali maru dialogues. ( Read: Milaap Zaveri has mastery over them. His earlier work includes dialogues for ‘Once upon a time in Mumbai’ &‘Dirty Picture’. He will very soon land in the league of the great Mr. Kader Khan). The film also explores the sensitive side of Manya where he is transformed from a distinction getting student to a criminal.

John Abraham probably gives one of the best acting performance of his career, apart from looking awesomely tough. He brings the kind of vulnerability required in Manya’s character. Kangana Ranaut is wasted and has nothing much to do except giving some explicit love making scenes.  Both Laila and Babali is badmaash as crowd pullers. And are like shining spots and act like eye catchers. The story line is predictable with a familiar style of narration by the protagonist in flash back.  The subplots of the fights between rival gangs (Manoj Bajpayee and Sonu Sood) elbows its way out in the story.

Veteran Anil Kapoor easily sleepwalks his way in the film. The action in the film has little emotion mixed in it.  SAW also answers a question, “ Does the film glamourizes the criminal’s” the answer is yes and no. Yes, because they are being served to larger than life loving audience in Bollywood and No, because it delicately balances out the outcome of the crooks in the end and tries to tell why a baddie becomes what he is.

All in all, this is a weekend biryani with a heavy dose of masala in it…!!!

+ ive:-  Good Action, Stylized and Sensitive depiction,  good dialogues.
