‘YAMLA PAGLA DEEWANA 2’ Movie Review- Tanmay Dubey

The Deols are back with YMD2 ! but does it have the bang…….well not really. While YPD was about Deolism, Sardarism and a feel good comedy about lovable characters; this one desperately tries to be one. Dharam (Dharmendra) and Gajodhar (Bobby) are back in Banaras and doing what they do best- con people. Paramveer (Sunny) true to his name is a not a superhero but a ‘super-sardar’ and is earning his living in an honest manner. Twist of events lands Dharam and Gajodhar in London and then begins a twisted tale of confusion, con, love triangle and what not.  In the end after a supposedly funny roller coaster ride film ends with a song !

What am I writing does it make sense!

This is what exactly you feel when you watch over the top comedy scenes in the film. Director Santosh Sivan tries to fit in every formula, gags referring to Salman Khan’s film, Deol’s films, Shahrukh Khan, Deols’ dancing style, a super intelligent monkey who can make world class painting and a make love to a dancing sheela ! I mean bandaria, Sunny Deol fighting a thousand samurai and if that was not enough he screams his way out to the gundas and kicks the butt of gigantic sumo wrestlers. Dharmendra desperately tries to save guard the otherwise wayward script and Anu Kapoors one liners are the only saving grace. Sunny and Bobby are now veterans and they give a performance which is expected from them. The two beautiful bimbos (Neha Sharma & Christina Akheeva) are for name sake while Neha gets two dancing numbers, Christina could only be a back bencher!

Anupam Kher and Jhonny lever are wasted in their loud avatar. Santosh Sivan’s earlier hindi comedy attempts were ‘Kya Kool hai hum’ and ‘Apna Sapna money money’ which relied heavily on slap stick comedy, but in an attempt to make a clean comedy he sadly nosedives. Except for couple of jokes and songs like the title track ‘Sadi daaru ka tu pani…… & Mai to aida hi nachna’ the film yelps for water in this summer.

All in all hum bhi agar bachche hote naam hamara hota yamla pagla aur dewana to duniya kahti what a fun film! But kids depend on their parents to bring them to theater.  J
