Nautanki Sala’ Movie Review- Tanmay Dubey

Starring :Ayushmann Khurrana, Kunaal Roy Kapoor, Pooja Salvi, Avlyn Sharma

Director:- Rohan Sippy

In Nautanki Saala, (Reportedly based on a French film) Director Ramesh Sippy brings a twisted tale of friendship –love and Hate of Ram Parmar aka R.P.  (khuranna) who plays Raavan on stage but has Ram in his heart and name. He fell in love with his ready to die friend’s (Kapoor's) girl and what begins is a story which at times tries hard to be funny and at times tries hard to touch the romantic chords of the audience. This desperate attempt looks like gharr-gharr of an old vehicle standing in cold for a long time; which stops with a jerk more than it starts, every time the Driver ( Read: Director) tries to start it.

The average performance by all the once again proves the point that great performance can make average screenplay movie become great but sadly it’s the vice versa with this film. Ayushmann Khurrana has a long way to go as an actor and Kunal Roy kapoor is beoming a sick character actor !. The leading ladies also fails to inspire in their acting ( except for long kissing scene with Ayushmann). Two lovely romantic tracks ( Mera Mann…& Tainu Hukka) fails to lift the spirit of the film. So gaya ye janha is nicely pictured, almost singing all the way to Mumbai-Pune highway and no dhak dhak karne laga only in Background!

Like a French wine the film is little bitter, less sweet and can taste good to only few people.  Sadly if it had little heart  little madness this could have been so much better
